The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station traffic unit will be conducting a driving-under-the-influence and driver’s-license checkpoint at an undisclosed location within Santa Clarita from 6 p.m. today to 2 a.m. Saturday.

Deputies will be checking drivers passing through the checkpoint for alcohol or drug impairment.

Local sheriff’s personnel have investigated 212 DUI incidents resulting in fatalities or injuries during the past three years, according to a news release.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any DUI enforcement strategy while also yielding cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent.

The checkpoint is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
