Letter: More arms do not equal more safety

I want to thank Brian Baker for doing a great service to world peace. In his July 28 letter to The Signal, Mr. Baker re-states the well-worn position of the rootin’-tootin’, gun-lovin’ right that more citizens should be armed so that they can defend themselves and others against firearm attack by criminals.

Taking Mr. Baker’s argument to its “logical” extreme, we should then arm all of the countries on Earth with nuclear weapons.

Using his rationale, that would make it safer for peace-loving countries to protect themselves from other nuke-armed countries and dissuade them from using their weapons for violent nuclear attack on their neighbors.

Sort of “MAD” (Mutually Assured Destruction) gone truly mad.

Thank you, Mr. Baker; now we know how to control Iran and North Korea and every other potential nuclear hotspot around the world.

Just like we should control gun violence here in America.
