Letter: Let’s get back in touch with sanity

We Americans are losing sight of psychological mankind. Indeed, Americans are now out of touch with the psychology of their being. During the 1970s and 1980s, psychological mankind was very strong here in our country.

Nowadays, we live in a technological and computerized age. Such an age takes away from our feelings and emotions — they become hardened and ruthless.

Yes, without a doubt, we Americans and people worldwide need to have better gun control — not only a criminal background check, but also a mental illness check for all people who buy guns here in America and abroad.

However, in the case of James Holmes, he would have passed both of those checks with flying colors. More than anything else, Holmes needed — and needs — psychological counseling to the extent that we had here in the aforesaid ’70s and ’80s.

The human predicament no longer gets addressed like it should, ending in bizarre reactions from people living on the edge of sanity.

Talk therapy — from psychologist to client — needs to re-enter the mainstream of our human consciousness. If not, expect more Batman-like displays.
