Prep baseball: Golden Valley moves on in American Legion playoffs

The Golden Valley baseball team’s summer league success continued on Friday afternoon, when Grizzlies’ pitchers combined to shut down the Santa Monica offense for six innings en route to a 4-2 win in a American Legion Area 6 playoffs.


Starting pitcher Josh Baldacci led the way for Golden Valley, allowing no runs and no hits in four innings of work.


Ty Ryan continued the them when he replaced Valducci in the fifth and allowed two seventh-inning runs in 2 1/3 innings before Nick Tejada came in and slammed the door shut to earn the save for Golden Valley.


The Grizzlies got run production from Ryan Mahotz and Tejada. Mahotz finished the game 3-for-4 with two singles and an RBI double, while Tejada had an RBI double to score Jaden France.


Lucas Granado added an RBI single and finished the game going 1-for-4.


Golden Valley took a 4-0 lead in the sixth inning when Tejada scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan.


With the victory, Golden Valley now moves into the winner’s bracket and will face the winner between St. Bernards and Desert Christian today at UCLA, with the finals to be held Sunday.
