Valencia fell to Chatsworth 3-2 in the semifinals of the Valley Invitational Baseball Playoffs on Friday at Chatsworth High.

Luke Soroko and Quentin Daniels combined to pitch seven innings with no earned runs in a losing effort for the Vikings (9-7).

“Both pitchers were solid out there today,” said Valencia head coach Jared Snyder. “Luke threw a lot of pitches for strikes and battled thoughout the game. Daniels was outstanding too. They only squared up one of his pitches.”

The pitchers combined to give up just five hits in the game, but it was poor defense that hurt the Vikings in the end.

Valencia committed six errors in the game, but two in the final half inning opened the door for Chatsworth (15-3).

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Chris DeVito hit a double to left field and advanced to third on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Austin Peters.

DeVito came around to tie the score at 2-2 as Riley Conlan successfully reached base on an error by the Valencia second baseman.

An error by the third baseman in the following at-bat allowed Nick Milone to get on base and gave Conlan the opportunity to score and win the game for Chancellors.

“We ended up just giving it away,” Snyder said. “They’re a good team and they’ve had our number. We’ve only lost about 10 games all summer, and three were to them.”

Offensively, the Vikings finished with five total hits.

Jared Oliva went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in the top of the fifth, while Keston Hiura went 2-for-3 with a double and a single.

A.J. Balta and Anthony Lepre each added one hit for the Vikings in the game.
