At least three vehicles hit bales of hay that fell from the back of a truck Wednesday afternoon on a stretch of Highway 14 at Escondido Canyon Road where three recent traffic collisions occurred, including a 19-car pileup.

One of the vehicles was a white Chevy van with five children on board, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

“No one was hurt and it was just property damage,” the officer said.

The van collided with a hay bale after it fell off the truck about 3:30 p.m. The van pulled over to the side of the road, the CHP reported.

Moments later, two other vehicles hit hay bales near Acton.

The collisions occurred on a stretch of the highway called “dangerous” by one fire official after emergency crews responded to a 19-car pileup on June 26 that sent 15 people to the hospital.

Five days after the pileup, the CHP responded to two other collisions on the highway, also at Escondido Canyon Road
