The Samuel Dixon Award was presented to the District by the Boys & Girls Club. The Governing Board recognized West Ranch and Hart high schools for their Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association state championship awards.

The Hart district's Early College High School and Academy of the Canyons middle college high school will merge next fall to create a four-year program at the University Center in Valencia.

School boundaries, growth patterns and school enrollment will undergo review by the Governing Board's Growth Committee.

Seven portable classrooms will be installed at West Ranch High School for anticipated overcrowding that may take place in fall 2009. First-year-costs are anticipated at $750,000 and annual leasing fees will be $47,000 annually thereafter.

Developer fees in the Santa Clarita Valley fell by nearly two-thirds during the last fiscal year.

Assuming State Department money approvals are true, the school district certified that it would remain fiscally solvent for the next three years.

The Governing Board approved an amendment to the mitigation agreement between the District and Synergy-Brookfield, LLC, which will provide $2 million in funding for performing arts centers at Saugus and Canyon high schools.

The District "sunshined" the collective bargaining proposal from the Hart District Teachers Association, a step required before actual negotiations can begin.
