Does it make sense to build medical office buildings for "Centers of Excellence" when the prospective surgeons have no operating rooms in which to perform?
Does it make sense to provide G&L Realty a 15-year "carte blanche" when they provide nothing back to the community other than traffic congestion and aesthetic eye-sores?
Does it make sense to allow a for-profit entity to build on nonprofit land without benefit of improved health care?
Yet the council has seen fit to approve the plan. Perhaps they were deceived by the lie that without medical office buildings, funding could not be obtained for hospital expansion.
Where is the competition? If hospital CEO Roger Seaver cannot finance a hospital that has no competition within the Santa Clarita Valley, then he should seek another profession.
Perhaps there were more subtle motives, such as receiving $30,000 in contributions to win a council seat.
Perhaps the destruction of 30-year-old trees along beautiful McBean Parkway is offset by having a "healing garden" named after you.
Perhaps it is that you just enjoy "big is better," and no matter how many intestinal bypasses you have, you still want more. The question comes back to integrity.
Perhaps the hospital Board of Directors should be examined for failure to properly exercise their fiduciary responsibilities.
We all want superior health care in the Santa Clarita Valley. We all want a bigger and better hospital with more bed and operating rooms.
We don't need three more medical office buildings and their associated traffic and parking problems!
