Rubin Villalobos, 41, of Saugus was killed at 5:50 a.m. after his 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee hit a patch of black ice and rolled over the southbound San Fernando Road offramp onto Highway 14, said Officer John Lutz of the California Highway Patrol.

"There was ice on the roadway and may have been an associated factor in this collision," Lutz stated in the report. "However, the approximate cause of the collision is still under investigation at this time."

Villalobos is the second local man killed in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 14 this week.

Brian David Convis, 27, of Agua Dulce, died when his truck went off the highway and struck a metal pole, a wooden fence, a storage container and a tree late Monday night.

At about 4:50 a.m. Tuesday, a person phoned the CHP after spotting an overturned 2005 GMC Sierra truck near Escondido Canyon Road and Norcross Road.

"It was located on its roof not far from Escondido," Lutz said. "This occurred at about 11:20 p.m. in the evening."

Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics responded to the overturned truck and pronounced the single occupant of the vehicle dead at 5:17 a.m.

Convis was identified as a the sole occupant and driver of the vehicle.

"He suffered major head trauma," Lutz said.
