Valencia Marketplace concert series
What: Free outdoor concert at the Valencia Marketplace Amphitheater featuring The Kelly Rae Band (country and pop hits).
When: 6-8 p.m.
Where: Valencia Marketplace shopping center. Amphitheater is on the north end of the center at McBean Parkway and The Old Road.

Artists’ reception
What: The public is invited to an artists’ reception for the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association Summer Art Festival. Light appetizers, no-host bar.
When: 5-7 p.m.; exhibit is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Saturday.

Today’s Highlight in History: On July 20, 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin became the first men to walk on the moon after reaching the surface in their Apollo 11 lunar module.
Ten years ago: Twenty-nine people died in a blaze started by bartenders who were doing tricks with fire at Utopia, an unlicensed night club in Lima, Peru.
Five years ago: President George W. Bush signed an executive order prohibiting cruel and inhuman treatment, including humiliation or denigration of religious beliefs, in the detention and interrogation of terrorism suspects.
