I hope your 4th of July was amazing and many wonderful memories were made with family and friends. Spend some time looking at the-signal.com and see all the changes we are making to make your user experience better.  There are lots of great things on our site that go beyond the “traditional” newspaper experience, like the “SCV Qwik-E,” a series of short videos featuring everything from wildfires to local events and all things the in between.  The “SCV Sports Blitz” is a weekly video series that features local youth athletes and sports teams. It’s a great way to showcase the fantastic sports scene in Santa Clarita, and if your child is a local athlete, you just might see them on the show. Soon, we will be launching “Scene SCV,” a local entertainment show featuring all of the hottest happenings in the Santa Clarita Valley.

One of the ways local businesses can advertise on the-signal.com is by sponsoring some of these innovative new video series’ in a dynamic, multi-platform package. Plus, we’re always looking for new ideas that captivate our web audience of more than 140,000 unique users every month. Feel free to give me a call if there is something you want to see or something you want to sponsor.

Good Morning Santa Clarita.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and got to spend time with your family and friends. It is always nice to get some extra time with family, especially if you have kids. They grow up so fast and the summer will be gone before we know it.

If you need an idea for family fun, Ride the Santa Clarita Transit Beach Bus. Enjoy your family and let someone else do the driving. The Beach Bus is every Saturday and Sunday thru September 2. You can schedule your beach fun by calling 661-294-1BUS. Don’t forget your sunscreen! Nothing spoils a great day at the beach more than a sunburn that hurts for days. Share your beach fun by uploading your photos to the #1 website in the Santa Clarita Valley  www.the-signal.com.  Go to community.the-signal.com to upload photos.

If the beach isn’t your thing, then pack up the lawn chairs and some goodies and head to Central Park on Saturday evening for the Concerts in the Park or to Valencia Marketplace for their concerts on Fridays. There is music for everyone.

While you are out and about enjoying what our wonderful city has to offer for fun, please remember to shop at our local retailers.

Hello to all of our Signal readers. I hope everyone had a safe and fun 4th of July and were able to enjoy time spent with friends and family. It’s hard to believe that the year is half over already. If you are looking to make a career change in the second half of the year, please check out our Top Jobs in the Classifieds section of the paper. Right now Frontier Toyota is looking for a Payroll Person. If you are a mechanic both Anheuser-Busch and the new Brake Masters, which will be opening this month in Newhall, are both looking for experienced mechanics. Make sure you check back on a regular basis as new jobs are listed every day.

Hello Santa Clarita.

Well, it’s back to the grind after a long, great 4th of July weekend. I’m sure most of you are refreshed and ready to go. Maybe not, it’s okay, we’re all in the same boat. Let’s make the best of it. A smile and a great attitude go a long way.

Are there any procrastinators out there? Do you have jewelry that needs repaired, or maybe a watch battery replaced? There’s a new jeweler in town. Actually he’s been around for years, but just opened a new place called Perfect Fit Jewelry at the Westfield Valencia Mall next to the Food Court. Ken To is a G.I.A. 1991 graduate, and has worked for a couple of well-known jewelers in California and Hawaii. He offers a multitude of repair services for jewelry, Hawaiian jewelry, watches and smart phones.  They sell jewelry, watchbands and can also custom design wedding and engagement rings. If you have gold jewelry you’d like to sell, he is offering the highest dollar for your items. With over 20 years of experience, Ken has also owned his business for over 10 years. Check out The Signal for their current specials, running in the Friday and Sunday paper.

Happy Tuesday and Happy Birthday to my son Martin.. Let’s talk about your potential customers and  a great place to reach them.  Newspaper subscribers and online newspaper users are potential customers.  In general they are more than 50 percent homeowners, are mostly college educated and have higher expendable income to spend on your goods & services. These are smart people that are interested in supporting their local community, and love a good deal. Now we’ve discussed where you should be advertising, let’s discuss how important it is to give people an incentive to take the step to use your goods.  What would make you respond more...“FREE dessert with purchase of your meal” OR “10 percent off the entire bill.” You would think the 10 percent right?... because the value could be much greater than the cost of a dessert, however people respond much better to discounts like 25%, 50% and best of all an offer of something FREE with purchase.  If you can make it work for you, you will find that people take advantage of these offers and become long time customers once you give them good value for their money and quality customer service.  Above all, remember to treat people as you wish to be treated, because you never know who could be in the market for your goods and services.  PK’s Chocolate in Canyon Country has had success with this offer for you to take advantage of, $2.00 free on a $10 purchase.  Pam & Kim have been there creating fresh chocolates and also making weddings and other events much sweeter since April of 2011!

We’ll be switching our Sales Beat to Monday next week… so until then… let me know if there’s something you’d like me to write about or if you’d like to talk about multi-media advertising.

Recently I had the opportunity to work closely with Bob Kellar on his re-election campaign. If you haven’t had the opportunity of conversing with Kellar at length, let me tell you about him. He is a no-nonsense straight shooter, and just an all-around fun guy to be around, with a bit of a serious tone.   When Kellar and his wife Cathy and I were first discussing his re-election campaign strategies, he told me that he wanted to invest most of his money into The Signal for his re-election marketing campaign. He thought it was the perfect place to be because newspaper readers are probably voters. His thought process was absolutely correct.

Approximately 90 percent of all newspaper readers are registered voters. In addition, it’s widely known that all newspaper subscribers have disposable income. Which makes total sense, because if they didn’t, why would they be spending money on a newspaper subscription…? Both of these facts played a key role in Bob’s decision making for marketing his campaign.

Obviously it helped him win, and much to my enlightenment and appreciation as many of you know Kellar personally thanked and acknowledged The Signal as the driving contributor to his win. I am proud to know Kellar and his wife Cathy and I look forward to Kellar being our mayor once again.

As many of you know Kellar is also in the real estate business in the SCV. The main Kellar-Davis office is located on Soledad by Sand Canyon. If you are ever in need of any services from Kellar, either in his real estate capacity or in his city council and future mayoral capacity, please feel free to tell him I sent you his way.
