Good Morning Santa Clarita Valley.

I hope you all had a wonderful and SAFE holiday weekend. Speaking of SAFE, I am in my car driving from one great business to another all day long. I see many people texting and driving. Please do not text and drive. Save my life, yours and others on the road. The phone call, email and text can wait! OK, enough of my SOAPBOX.

Many local merchants are optimistic with the holiday weekend behind us that things are picking up. I hope that you all continue to support our local family owned businesses.

Marty’s Flooring America has been one of our community’s family owned businesses since 1971. Take in their ad for some great SUMMER savings.

With graduations upon us, it reminds me of the STRESS of preparing my now-nine year-old son for college in eight years. WOW, eight more years of wondering where he will go, how much will it cost, will he get scholarships? This must be what parents are thinking about now with their high school children. College Planning Experts can help with all these questions. Our kids sometimes think we have all the answers, but we don’t. That is why there are EXPERTS to help us navigate unfamiliar territory and to help us help our children find the right college for them.

As you are reading this, you are probably saying to yourself, WOW this gal is not a WRITER! You would be correct. I was the math and science girl and did not see the need for correct spelling and grammar and disliked all my writing classes with a passion. Why am I telling you this? I now know that even though you don’t like the classes…..PAY ATTENTION. At some point, your boss will ask you to WRITE!

I hope you all have a SUCCESSFUL busy week with lots of SALES to kick off a wonderful SUMMER.

ENJOY!

This week The Signal announced that we have launched an exciting and competitive new component to our Classifieds section. We have created the Top Jobs Recruitment Packages for the employers of the Santa Clarita Valley. We have rolled out two different packages with terms of two and four weeks. Each package will include your ad in print, in our new BIGGER/BOLDER/BETTER easy to read format. Your ad will also be placed online in the classifieds section of our website the-signal.com. In addition to this, we are adding a video component to each ad. We are creating a 20 to 30 second video that will tell prospective employees about the position you are looking to fill. Each video can be viewed on any mobile device or tablet as well as on our website. They can also be placed on your website and any social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

Whether you are someone who is looking for a career change or an employer looking to fill an open position within your company, you should check out the new Top Jobs section on our website!

Hello Santa Clarita!

I hope everyone had a chance to spend quality time with their friends and family over the Memorial Day weekend. Every year, Eternal Valley has paid a nice tribute to our veterans. The green hills are colored with red, white and blue, and I am proud to say my daughter’s Girl Scout Troup 3402 (and many other volunteers) helped place flags on each gravesite.

Traditionally, the weekend of Memorial Day or any other holiday, you can find a great deal in the newspaper. Not only do we bring you the local news, but we also help businesses get their messages to you. Be sure to check the newspaper for daily specials and help support our businesses. Our next holiday is July 4th, so business owners, get your message out there and keep living your dream!

Congratulations to all 2012 graduates! Celebrate your accomplishments; you’ve earned it! But remember to slow down, pay attention and get to where you are going safely. We’ve seen way too many tragedies in the past few months.

One more thing: Our annual Welcome edition “Newcomers and Neighbors Guide” will deadline on June 1, publishing June 17. Give us a call at 661-259-1234 to book your space today.

After purchasing our new home recently, my wife and I decided to do a few things to it before we moved in. The biggest thing was we wanted to paint the house inside because it was all plain white, so of course we had to add some color, because you know I love color working in marketing! My wife is no exception to that, either. She had a great time picking room colors and, of course, some crown molding.

I had heard about the exceptional work that Randall Winter construction had done for other friend’s homes, so we gave him a call. From the initial visit with Randall to the completion of the job, everything was perfect. His team of professionals, including a sub-contractor, Jon Green from Mint Condition Painting, was incredible! They were friendly, they were respectful, they were fast and they were good! If you have any construction needs at your home give Randall Winter a shout and tell him I sent you his way! Also, if you need any painting done, feel free to contact Jon Green at Mint Condition Painting and tell him I sent you his way as well!

This is only our second Sales Beat and I’m already wondering what I should write about! Maybe I should refrain from speaking all week so I can leave it for this? I’m kidding, of course. Those who know me know I’m rarely at a loss for words!

Yesterday I was on Main Street in Old Town Newhall and I stopped for a minute to take in all the beautiful improvements that have been done there. After that, I stopped by Santa Clarita School of Performing Arts, where they teach you how to be a star and give you resources like headshots, and introduce you to agents! I had the opportunity to speak with one of their students, Tara Duncanson, who initially brought her son Connor there, and she decided to sign up, too. To make a long story short, they are now BOTH doing national commercials thanks to Mr. Mike and the team at SCSOPA.

Speaking of commercials … have you checked out our online video commercials? Go to our website and click on the “video” tab! It’s an awesome way to bring advertising to life with sound and images! In advertising we’re gearing up for the upcoming “Newcomers and Neighbors.” It’s a guide to living in this community … look for it on June 17. If you would like to advertise your business or services to The Signal’s audience, then give us a call before June 1!

I hope you enjoyed my column! Let me know if there’s anything you’d like to read about. I look forward to hearing from you!
