For the seventh consecutive year, Hart High School's marching band and color guard won the state championship in its division at the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association field championships at Pasadena City College on Dec. 6.

The Hart Regiment's performance of "Solaris" received a score of 92.60 out of 100 points in the competition among Division 4A bands - one of the highest scores in the band's history.

Hart swept the competition by earning high music, high visual and high general-effect awards.

Along with parents and families, Hart Principal Dr. Collyn Nielsen and Vice Principal Mark Crawford were on hand to cheer band and color guard members during their award-winning performance and at the award ceremony.

"It's remarkable what these students have accomplished this year," band director Anthony Bailey said. "This year's show was challenging - musically and technically - and they rose to the occasion. I'm so proud of each and every one of them."

Each year, the SCSBOA judges more than 60 competitive field tournaments and more than 40 competitive band reviews throughout Southern California.

Each December, the field championships feature performances by the 12 highest-scoring marching bands (in six divisions) from throughout the fall season.

Winning the state champion title capped an impressive season by the Hart Regiment, which won several tournament championship titles. Its seventh consecutive title is an accomplishment that remains unmatched by any other group.
