CORRECTED Letter: Saugus Speedway relocated

Editor’s note: In Sunday’s edition, this letter was erroneously attributed to Annette Lucas, of Newhall.

The Saugus Speedway is not gone. It has simply relocated. Soledad Canyon Road is the new speedway through the valley.

The latest fatal accident underscores this ongoing problem. At any time of day or night, the street is a racetrack.
Stop signals are used as starting blocks for motorcycles and small sports-type race cars to drag off from. The slow lane is now the fast lane used for high-speed passing to see who reaches the next red signal first.

Radar enforcement cannot be there every minute, but it can be there more than it presently is. How many accidents have there been on this road related to speed and reckless driving? A task force approach is needed to shut down this “fast track.”

So how about it, City Council and sheriff? You live here — you know what I am saying is a fact.

Some new creative tactics and engineering is required now. Try the multiple radar checks at various locations like the CHP does on Sierra Highway.

Yes, other areas need enforcement also, but Soledad has become the poster photo location for “Speed Kills.” I live on Soledad and see and hear the speeders regularly.
