It’s never too early to start thinking about football.

Calpreps.com, a website which analysis and assigns power rankings to every high school football team in California, has released its updated power rankings for 2012.

According to the site, Hart is the cream of the Foothill crop, posting a 44.5 ranking.

Canyon follows with a 42.3, Valencia is third with a 38.1, West Ranch is fourth with a 22.6, Saugus has a 13.4 and Golden Valley is set at 0.5.

For comparison, Hart, which finished in fourth place last season, was set at 40.1 at the end of 2011, with Valencia at 37.1 and Canyon at 40.8

The Vikings will play the most difficult schedule of the bunch in 2012, according to the site, with games against Palmdale (23.7), Righetti (29.3) and Loyola (46.9) at home, and Chaminade (48.1) and Santa Monica (29.6) on the road.

The most difficult game, though, belongs to Golden Valley, which will host Notre Dame (59.2) on Sept. 21.

The Indians will travel to Tesoro (51.5) in the Foothill League’s most difficult road contest of 2012.

After struggling in the playoffs in recent years, as the Marmonte League has dominated the CIF-Southern Section, Calpreps.com’s rankings suggest the Foothill League should go deep this season after the Marmonte was moved to the Pac-5.

Among the remaining teams in the Northern Division, Palos Verdes’ 38.8 is the highest non-Foothill ranked team.
