Support the food pantry

As economy woes continue to affect the lives of so many people, it has become very difficult for nonprofits to raise money.

The letter to the editor from Belinda Crawford, executive director of the SCV Food Pantry in Newhall, shows how easy it is for most of us to support the Food Pantry even in this economy.

Although it has become impossible for many people to write a check for a hundred dollars for a seat at a fundraising event, it is not so difficult for many of us to add a few extra items to our cart at the grocery store for the Food Pantry.

This last summer, we were invited to a friend's 50-year birthday party, and in lieu of gifts, the invitation requested that we bring a bag of food items for the SCV Food Pantry, and the entire dining room was filled with bags for the Food Pantry.

This holiday season, please don't forget the Food Pantry and, if you can, add a new toy to your grocery bag.

A few items from us all can add up to make a huge difference for a great many people, especially if we continue to support the Food Pantry all through the year.
