Response to Levine

After one reading of Laurie Levine's letter to the editor on Dec. 2, 2008, I must say: "Chill, Laurie, chill."

Your candidate won - congratulations - and, contrary to the attitude of most of your party toward President Bush, we hope and pray for the success of our new administration and wonderful country.

You totally missed the thrust of my letter. Simply put: "Whether a baby is aborted shortly before birth or killed a few moments after birth, the result is the same."

While you specifically may not be pro-abortion, a huge majority of liberals indeed subscribe to the Democratic Party's proudly held position.

For most of civilized society, such behavior (abortion) is sad, sickening, and repulsive. Many readers (including a pro-choicer) expressed to me, "John, your letter was well done, merely expressed as an opinion shared by many, and was good food for thought."

Over a half-century of living has given me the opportunity and blessing of knowing, working and getting along with thousands of good and wonderful people of most races, nationalities, religious and political persuasions.

Recently, comedian and talk-show host Dennis Miller stated in no uncertain terms that the left/liberals - and he spent many hours there as part of the Hollywood scene - were and are more vile, hateful, hostile, mean-spirited, bigoted, intolerant, disrespectful, and angry toward the right/conservatives - where he now happily finds himself - than the right has ever been toward the left.

His comments are indeed credible and noteworthy since he's been on both sides.

In America I believe each may have an opinion. In civilized society it's expected that human beings make choices and judgment calls every day of their lives.

There is a moral compass that all of us should heed. Some have the world view that "anything goes."

Fortunately, folks from all walks of life know such doesn't work.
