Letter: Marijuana is beneficial for servicemen

People who say that medical marijuana (pot) ought to be illegal are just plain cruel.

My brother Mike was severely injured as a U.S. Marine fighting on the front lines of Vietnam. However, even now, many years since that war, he still has nightmares about seeing so much misery.

In fact, one of his friends died in that war. In short, pot helps them to live comfortably, even with all those horror stories in their mindset.

In truth, I think pot should be legal for everybody — but especially for our servicemen returning home from wartime service to our country. Of course, many of our returning servicemen from wars will smoke pot regardless if it is illegal to do so, and that is a sad case of affairs.

People who say that pot should be illegal, even for our servicemen coming home from war, show zero empathy. They have never been in warfare — and many have no military experience at all.

Thus, they think all is roses within the mindset of our U.S. servicemen returning from war.

They do not have the aforementioned nightmares, and in a cruel fashion, show contempt for all of our U.S. servicemen who do.
