Saugus residents, from left, Annie Estes, Rose Di Benedetto, and Shannon Donathan dance at the first of the Concerts in the Park at Central Park in Saugus on Saturday.

An estimated 2,500 Santa Clarita Valley residents attended the first installment of the Concerts in the Park series Saturday at Central Park.

“It’s a great family event,” said Mike Fleming, an arts and events supervisor with the city of Santa Clarita. “We hope people can come with their families and enjoy the music.”

“I hope people leave tonight as fans,” Fleming said, referring to The Shoemaker Brothers, a folk rock band comprised of four brothers from Newhall.

The concert was the first in an eight-week series hosted by the city of Santa Clarita. Upcoming concerts will include Latin jazz, Motown and pop rock.

“There’s going to be a variety of music,” Fleming said. “We wanted to mix it up for people.”

Dianne Saul said she usually brings her family to three or four of the concerts every summer. The 55-year-old Newhall resident said she appreciates the event’s family-friendly atmosphere.

“It’s just good clean fun, and the family always has a good time,” Saul said.

The next concert is scheduled for July 14 and will feature Led Zepagain, a Led Zeppelin tribute band.
