Oggi’s Pizza and Brewing restaurants in Santa Clarita and Huntington Beach have gone into receivership, a form or corporate bankruptcy, according to a San Diego-based law firm.
An unidentified buyer has come forth for both pizza parlors, contingent upon finalization of lease agreements, according to Preovolos Lewin & Musgrove who handled the purchase agreement. The buyer is close to finalizing the lease at the Santa Clarita location, which could occur as early as this month.
Oggi’s continues to operate and remains open, said John Leland, driver for the Santa Clarita eatery.
Creditors received letters from the law firm, notifying them of the opportunity to submit a claim against the receivership estate’s assets.
The Sundance Food Service, Inc., doing business as Oggi’s Pizza and Brewing Co., on Soledad Canyon Road opened in 1997 in the retail center that houses the Canyon Country Edwards Cinema.
The chain was founded in Del Mar in 1992 by brothers George and John Hadjis, who expanded with franchises throughout Southern California and Arizona. The family-owned and operated chain reports that it has 17 locations.
In 2003 the company opened a 10,500 square foot facility in San Clemente to house Oggi’s administration, training and centralized brewing needs.
Company marketing material says “Oggi” stands for “today” in Italian. The family adopted the name because it symbolizes freshness as well as “the here and the now.”
