The California Highway Patrol will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint in the Santa Clarita Valley on Friday night.
The checkpoint will begin around 6:30 p.m. and end around 2:30 a.m.

CHP officers will be checking every car unless traffic volume becomes too heavy, but motorists will be detained only momentarily, a spokesman said Thursday.

According to an official statement, DUI checkpoints are conducted to create awareness among the motoring public, deter people from driving under the influence and keep the streets safe for all.

“Even though arrest totals do not rise dramatically, the psychological influence a checkpoint has on the motoring public is invaluable,” the statement said.
