The California Rangers, a nonprofit youth equestrian organization, hosted its annual regimental show at Don-e-brook farms on San Francisquito Road in Santa Clarita Dec. 7.

The Rangers hosted 110 cadet competitors from 9 to 18 years old.

Eight youth cavalry troops were represented, four from the San Fernando Valley and four from Santa Clarita.

The competitions consisted of individual equitation (individual riding skills) classes by rank structure, teamwork riding in groups of two and four and troop-mounted cavalry drills.

Troop H from Osborne Stables in the San Fernando Valley was the overall winner of the competition.

The California Rangers teach horsemanship and drill maneuvers, and their military structure seeks to develop leadership, self-respect, and mental and physical discipline.
