Third Thursdays
The city of Santa Clarita hosts a themed party 7-11 p.m.  every third Thursday of the month, on Main Street in Newhall. Free. Enjoy live music and entertainment, art displays, food trucks and more. Info: 661-250-3787 or

Today
The Fourth of July festivities will begin with the 30th Annual Independence Day Classic, which begins at 8 a.m. at Newhall Park, located at 24933 Newhall Ave. Presented by the Santa Clarita Runners’ Club, races start at 7 a.m. for the 10K, 7:45 a.m. for the Kids K, and 8 a.m. for the 5K race/walk. Community members can register for races at scrunners.org.
After the run, residents can enjoy the Santa Clarita 4th of July Parade, beginning at 9 a.m. beginning on Main Street in downtown Newhall.  The mile-long parade route, which will feature horses, floats, music, classic cars, military presentations and more, will travel down Main Street, Lyons Avenue and Orchard Village Road before finishing at 16th Street.
The day’s festivities will culminate with the City of Santa Clarita Fourth of July Fireworks Show at the Westfield Valencia Town Center starting at 9:15 p.m.
 
Thursday, July 12

Saturday, July 14
A Texas Hold ‘Em tournament to benefit the Santa Clarita-based Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children’s Cancer is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, July 14 at Diamond Jim’s Casino, 118 20th St. W., Rosamond. Saturday, July 14
The fourth annual High Heel-a-thon to stomp out domestic and teen dating violence will be held 9-11 a.m. Saturday, July 14 in downtown Newhall. The 150-yard walk (high heels optional) will begin at Market and Main Street. Benefits Domestic Violence Center of SCV, Break the Cycle and the Valley Trauma Center. Sunday Aug. 5

Saturday, Aug. 18

Gently used clothing needed
Wayman Cleaners is collecting gently used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, shoes and accessories such as purses to distribute to the homeless and low-income populations in and around the SCV. AngelDogs Foundation provides low-cost spay/neuter for dogs and cats through its mobile clinic the first three Wednesdays of each month behind Backwoods Inn Restaurant, 17846 Sierra Highway, Canyon Country. Men of Harmony Chorus seeks voices
The SCV Men of Harmony Chorus meets 7:30-9:45 p.m. every Tuesday, Valley Oaks Village Apartments, 24700 Valley Street  Santa Clarita. The group’s specialty is singing in four-part harmony without musical accompaniment, also known as a cappella singing. All singing men in any voice range are welcome.  The 15-man group entertains for local organizations and enjoys vocalizing on a regular basis. Pet Assistance seeks volunteers
Pet Assistance Foundation SCV staffs a hotline providing our community low-cost resources for cat and dog spaying and neutering. Placerita Canyon Nature Center

‘Primp Your Pit’ spay or neuter

Domestic Violence Center counseling
The Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita will be offering free group sessions for survivors of domestic violence 10.-11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday; 5:30-7 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays and 6-7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays.  All group sessions are free and will be held at 24509 Walnut St. Newhall, CA   91321. Happy Feat Running Club welcomes all
