LOS ANGELES (AP) — A man who hit a Los Angeles policewoman in the head with a snare drum during a May Day protest has been sentenced to a year in jail.
Brian Mendoza, 23, was sentenced Monday after pleading no contest to felony battery. He received 122 credits for days already spent in jail.
Authorities say a splinter group broke from the main May Day protest and skirmished with police.
Prosecutors say Mendoza was videotaped striking the policewoman without warning on the back of the head with a snare drum, denting her helmet. She was treated for a minor concussion.
