Letter: Religious freedom is in danger

In response to “Religious freedom is in no danger,” June 25:

Only someone who does not understand the issue at hand would make the statement that religious freedom is not at stake.

The issue is clearly about freedom of religion — freedom to believe as the Constitution guarantees and not as the government from time to time decides.

Government cannot mandate religion, just as religion cannot mandate government. We’re not an Islamic nation where religion mandates to the government, and history proves how that has worked out.

I also resent Mr. Warburton’s attack on the Catholic Church, which is the single largest non-governmental contributor to health care and social services in the world.

Maybe “the exclusive club of old men” knows a little more than Mr. Warburton.
