Traffic remained light Saturday afternoon on Interstate 5 north of the Santa Clarita Valley despite construction on the freeway, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said.

Caltrans advised motorists to avoid I-5 near Buttonwillow, Lebec, and Gorman on Fridays and Sundays between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. due to repaving work in the area. Caltrans will close lanes throughout the summer for the repaving work.

As of mid-afternoon Saturday, there were no reports of congestion because of the construction work, the spokeswoman said.
