This year is America’s 236th Independence Day and what better way to celebrate then with the City of Santa Clarita?

Whether it’s community run/walks, fireworks, pancake breakfasts or parades, there are plenty of local events designed to commemorate the birth of this great country and our American way of life.

An excellent way to start off the morning of July 4th is by attending the traditional Santa Clarita Rotary Club Breakfast at 6:30 a.m. in Old Town Newhall. Pancakes, sausage, orange juice and coffee will be served in the Roger Dunn Golf parking lot on Main Street between Fifth and Sixth streets.

The patriotic festivities continue with the fun 30th annual Independence Day Classic at Newhall Park. Races start at 7 a.m. for the 10K, 7:45 a.m. for the Kids K, and 8 a.m. for the 5K race/walk. The final 2-mile stretch coincidently follows the parade route of the Santa Clarita Fourth of July Parade. This guarantees one of the best cheering sections in Southern California. Running not your speed? Walk, or just join in on the fun by cheering on your fellow community members.

The long-standing Santa Clarita 4th of July Parade will take place in Old Town Newhall starting at 9 a.m.   This year’s parade theme is “Santa Clarita Volunteers.” Plan to line up early along the parade route to enjoy horses, floats, music, fire trucks, classic cars, military presentations and lots of adorable kids.

The milelong parade route travels north along Main Street from Fifth Street to Lyons Avenue, turns west on Lyons and then north onto Orchard Village Road, ending at 16th Street.

Street closures will begin at approximately 7 a.m. and include: Main Street in both directions from Pine Street to Lyons Avenue; Lyons Avenue in both directions, from Main Street to Orchard Village Road; and Orchard Village Road in both directions, from Lyons Avenue to 16th Street.

More information about local community traditions can be found at SCVParade.com.
The city of Santa Clarita is proud to once again present the Fourth of July Fireworks Show, which is the culminating event of this important national holiday in our community.

To crown the evening, the Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration at the Westfield Valencia Town Center will begin at 9:15 p.m. During the fireworks show, McBean Parkway will be completely closed at 7 p.m. between Valencia Boulevard and Magic Mountain Parkway, and will reopen approximately one hour after the end of the fireworks show.

Additionally, Valencia Boulevard between McBean Parkway and Citrus Avenue, will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction between 7:30 p.m. and the end of the fireworks show at approximately 9:45 p.m. Magic Mountain Parkway, between McBean Parkway and Citrus Avenue, will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction between 7:30 p.m., and the end of the fireworks show at approximately 9:45 p.m.

Santa Clarita community members are encouraged to plan ahead and arrive in the area around the Westfield Valencia Town Center with plenty of time to enjoy the fireworks show.

Just remember that it is illegal to privately set off fireworks. To report illegal fireworks, please contact the SCV Sheriff’s Department at 661-255-1121.

We hope that you and your family enjoy a safe holiday, celebrating our nation’s history and independence filled with patriotism and fun.
