Relatively moderate summer temperatures forecast through holiday

Santa Clarita Valley residents used to blistering-hot Fourth of July celebrations may be a bit surprised this year.

As of Friday, the National Weather Service is forecasting a high near 89 degrees in the Santa Clarita Valley for Independence Day on Wednesday.

In 2009, organizers of the traditional Santa Clarita Valley Fourth of July Parade moved the start time up to 9 a.m. from an hour later due to the usual high temperatures on the holiday, which often hit triple digits before parade participants stepped off from their assembly point to march down Main Street.

Highs are expected to remain mild — at least by the standards of Santa Clarita Valley summers — through this weekend and the first half of next week, with highs reaching 91 Saturday, then dipping to the high 80s and remaining there through Wednesday.

They’re expected to climb back into the low 90s next Thursday.

Lows will remain consistent around 58 degrees.
