A new event will mosey into town — at Heritage Junction in Newhall adjacent to William S. Hart Park — this weekend.
SCV Wild West Days will offer a variety of fun activities — nearly something for everyone — Saturday and Sunday to benefit the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society.
“This is a new event for us,” said Scott Sively, co-chairman of the event with Ed Marg. “We hope everyone will stop by and enjoy the music, food and shows.”
Live music will be offered by the award-winning WMA musicians Tom Hiatt & The Sundown Riders on Saturday and the Cross Town Cowboys on Sunday.
The event will feature:
- A ride out to the Cowboy Trail Encampment to experience what it was like to live in the Wild West in the 1800s;
- The Reenactors Guild of America will offer historic stories of life in the West;
- A humorous Wild West Show by Phil Spangenberger and the Spirit of the West Riders;
- Chuckwagon;
- Gold panning, with instruction provided by an authentic gold prospector;
- Traders Jubilee, show and sale of Old West collectibles, reproductions, clothing, art and gifts;
- Interact with Old West characters;
- Tour the SP 1629 M4 Mogul locomotive, Edison House, Kingsburry House, Ramona Chapel and Callahan Schoolhouse;
- Tour the SCV History Center and Museum;
- See a privately owned Civil War collection on display for this event only;
- See a privately owned Old West gun collection on display for this event only;
- Living history presentations, historic displays and demonstrations;
- And visit with famous movie stars, stuntmen and experts from Western films.
“This will be a family-friendly event,” said Sively. “It’s a great place for kids to come and learn about the real Old West.”
