The California Highway Patrol sergeant investigating Tuesday’s 19-car pileup on Highway 14 said Wednesday he’s busy poring through information provided by at least 18 people involved.

“We’re still in the very early stages of our investigation,” CHP Sgt. Rick Miler said.

“Right now, we’re still trying to figure out who was where and what they were doing.”

The pileup on southbound Highway 14 near Acton, just south of Escondido Canyon Road, injured 18 people after a big rig plowed into several cars halted during a traffic stop to remove debris in the roadway, Miler said at the crash site Tuesday.

Despite 19 vehicles damaged in the incident, no one was seriously injured, according to the CHP and the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
