Letter: Return us to county library system

Recently I was tutoring a student who was reading “Of Mice and Men” in his class at school. I went to the Valencia branch of the Santa Clarita Library to get a copy so I could keep ahead of him.

I was amazed to discover that the complete holdings of John Steinbeck consisted of two copies of “The Winter of Our Discontent.”

The good news is that because of alphabetic shelving of fiction, I was able to observe five complete shelves (each holding about 20-25 volumes) of Danielle Steele.

This Santa Clarita Library situation is a disaster to anyone who reads and enjoys literature. Laurie Ender is looking for a job in part because of her strong advocacy of library privatization.

It is time to acknowledge that we (our City Council) made a huge mistake, bite the bullet, and pay whatever it takes to return us to the L.A. County Library system.

Our city elders, in their zeal to fix something that was not broken, greatly diminished the quality of life in the SCV. Now is the time to reverse this.
