Rebecca Ho is a trail blazer. At Golden Valley High School, there are plenty of trails to be blazed.
Ho, who only recently became a senior, played with a cool calm on the tennis court that belied her ferocious ability to defeat all league opponents who stepped in her path.
There have been some very prominent prep girls tennis players in the Santa Clarita Valley. Golden Valley head coach Josh Stimac has seen them.
“I’d give her the edge against any of them,” Stimac told The Signal during Ho’s sophomore season.
As a junior, she only got better.
Never before had a Golden Valley girls tennis player dominated the regular season. Not until Ho went a staggering 46-1 against all competitors this past fall.
Never before had a Golden Valley girls tennis player won the Foothill League individual title. Not until Ho defeated West Ranch’s Ana Cecilia Fuentes at Paseo Club to cap a 27-0 run through the league.
Never before had a Golden Valley girls tennis player earned All-Santa Clarita Valley Player of the Year honors. Not until Ho earned the distinction in early January.
“She’s an all-around good player,” Fuentes told The Signal at league finals. “It’s hard to get around. I can’t change my shots because she hits really hard and deep.”
Since the Foothill League wasn’t enough to stop Ho, she had to wait until the CIF-Southern Section Individual postseason to be knocked off. Even then, it took Mira Costa star and eventual Southern Section champion Maegan Manasse to do it.
