MLB: Bauer could get called up this week

Speculation is Hart grad will make big league debut Thursday

Hart High graduate Trevor Bauer appears to be targeted for his Major League debut this week.

Speculation is that Bauer will start for the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday because starting pitcher Joe Saunders was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday.

Bauer was pulled from his Sunday start for the Triple-A Reno Aces after 2 2/3 innings, giving even more rise to the speculation that the Diamondbacks’ top prospect would receive the call-up.

Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson and Arizona Executive Vice President and General Manager Kevin Towers have downplayed the talk, though.

“We had to do that to keep him in consideration, that was the plan,” Gibson told MLB.com. “We’ll make that decision, you guys can speculate, we don’t have to do anything until Thursday.”

The 21-year-old right-hander and 2008 Hart grad is 11-1 with a 2.23 ERA in 16 starts, having started the season in Double-A before a promotion in mid-May.

The Diamondbacks will play at Atlanta on Thursday.
