SUNNYVALE(AP) - Police are asking that charges be filed against a Sunnyvale man who was shot by California Highway Patrol officers at the end of a pursuit.

Sunnyvale police Capt. Dave Verbrugge (ver-bru-gee) says 34-year-old James Ligon remains hospitalized in stable condition after he was shot early Thursday.

Investigators say when two CHP officers tried to pull Ligon over on Highway 101 because they suspected he was driving under the influence, instead of stopping, he led them on a pursuit that ended a few miles away on a Sunnyvale residential street

When Ligon did pull over, Verbrugge says he got out of his car and was shot when one of the officers "felt his life was in danger."

Sunnyvale police say they're asking that Ligon be charged with threatening an officer, felony evading and violating probation.

Because the shooting took place on a Sunnyvale street, Sunnyvale police are handling the investigation.
