Golfers and guests gathered on the terrace at Robinson Ranch Golf Clubhouse on Monday to cheer as four fellow golfers tried their luck at a $100,000 shoot-out contest to wrap up the seventh annual Zonta Golf Tournament.

Jim Lentini, Mike Miller, Jim Blazer and Mitch Davis, who were chosen in a random drawing among tournament Super Ticket holders, drew cheers from the crowd as their shots angled toward the pin and collective groans as they veered into the rough or swerved toward the nearby lake.

Blazer’s shot was closest to the green from 165 yards away, and missed the $100,000 cash prize for a hole-in-one in the shoot-out only to claim a vacation package for a consolation prize. Miller won a $50 cash prize for the shot second closest to the hole. A second vacation package went to Dave Reeves, who posted the lowest score on the Super Ticket scratch-off contest.

John Heys’ team, consisting of Heys, Don Hinson, Bob Kellar and Jerry Wagmouth, won trophies for Men’s Low Score, the sixth year in a row for Heys and his fellow golfers.

Top Mixed Team award was presented to Mike David, Mic Montalvo, Mike Miller and Alex Macaluso, who scored a better round than the top men’s team.

Longest Drive winners were Mic Montalvo for the women, and Mike Miller for the men. Sydnee Davidson won the women’s Closest to the Pin award, while John Heys won the men’s award. Davidson was called back to the podium along with team members Darleen Connor, Brian Jasperson and Lee Wilso to claim the dubious award of Highest Scoring Team.

Forty-five players enjoyed perfect golf weather for the annual event, which is one of Zonta’s key fund-raising projects.

Proceeds will help support the club’s programs to improve the lives of women locally and around the world. Pat Willett chaired this year’s tournament, along with Honorary Chairman Bob Kellar.

Tournament sponsor was The Berger Group at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney.
