CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. (AP) - Police in the Palm Springs area say an 8-year-old boy brought an unloaded handgun to school, and the 24-year-old uncle who owns the weapon is under arrest on suspicion of child endangerment.

Cathedral City police said in a statement that a second-grade teacher at Agua Caliente Elementary School saw the boy showing the gun to classmates and confiscated it.

Police say an investigation showed that the boy's uncle, 24-year-old Ricardo Olivera, had stored the gun inside the home they share in a way that allowed easy access to it for his nephew or any other child.

The statement says other weapons were found in the home and police are considering more charges.
