Hart High graduate Trevor Bauer was selected Thursday to play in this year's All-Star Futures Game in Kansas City.

The Futures Game is one of the major events during Major League Baseball's All-Star Week and pits baseball's top prospects against each other.

It will be played this year at Kansas City's Kauffman Stadium on July 8.

Bauer is the Arizona Diamondbacks' top prospect and has enjoyed a stellar year in his first full professional season.

He is a combined 11-1 with a 2.19 ERA with 111 strikeouts in 90 1/3 innings between Double-A Mobile and Triple-A Reno, where he is currently playing.

The 2008 Hart High graduate is the second local to be invited to play in the Futures Game, which has been played every year since 1999.

In 2008, Hart grad and Cincinnati Reds organization infielder Chris Valaika played in the game at old Yankee Stadium.

Bauer will represent the U.S. team.

The other squad will be made of players from outside of the country and is called the "World" team.
