Letter: Right-turn only lane needed

When improvements were being made to the overpasses on McBean Parkway and Valencia Boulevard, the right-turn-only lane from McBean onto Orchard Village was restriped and “temporarily” made a through lane.

It’s been a few years and we still haven’t gotten the right-turn-only lane back.

Every day at the evening rush hour, and on most week end afternoons, it is typical to have 20-30 cars waiting to turn right stuck behind a single car going straight. It is bad for traffic flow, bad for air pollution and totally unnecessary.

If that intersection is busy enough that it requires two left-turn-only lanes from Orchard Village onto McBean at the morning rush hour, doesn’t it follow that at least one right-turn-only lane is needed for the return trip?

This should be a no-brainer. C’mon, city of Santa Clarita; fix this already!
