2012 Miss SCV royalty crowned

Pageant attracts 51 contestants who competed for six regional crowns

The 33rd annual Miss Santa Clarita Valley Scholarship Program crowned six regional queens from the 51 contestants that participated June 16 in the pageant held at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center on the campus of College of the Canyons.

The event opened with a salute to the military.

Duane Harte, a retiree from the U.S. Navy appeared onstage in his dress uniform as Theresa Bruneau sang “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.”     

A dance number followed courtesy of the Hip Hop Dance Club from College of the Canyons.

Miss SCV 1996, Bruneau sang a tribute to Whitney Houston.

The contestants for the six regional titles, Little Miss SCV, Junior Miss SCV, Miss Teen SCV, Miss SCV, Ms. SCV and Mrs. SCV competed in swimsuit, formal wear and ball gown before the semifinalists were announced.

Contestants are required to perform from two to eight hours of community service and judged on personal interview, fitness, formal wear and ball gown. Semifinalists presented a strictly timed one minute speech on why they sought the crown.

The retiring royal court, Little Miss SCV Lindsey Lewis, Junior Miss SCV Shelby Myers, Miss Teen SCV Aurora Albi-Mercier, Miss SCV Emily Chetner, Ms. SCV Theresa Bruno and Mrs. SCV Debbie Haas, presented a year-end video before each queen took her final walk. Each retiring queen received jewelry or a scholarship.

The Miss SCV royal court appears in the Fourth of July parade, sells raffle tickets a nonprofit fundraising events and is seen at grand openings and ribbon cuttings.

Judges for the pageant were Gary Choppe, Margo Hudson, Tripp Jones, Barbara Myler and Deborah Montague. Auditor was Tom Iland. Emcees for the evening were Alan Reno and Miss SCV 2008 Hope Morrice Basher.
