Less than three weeks after making a semifinal appearance at the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship, University of California, Berkeley golfer Max Homa became an All-America honoree.

Homa, a Valencia High graduate, was named to the Division I PING All-America Third Team, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Wednesday.

A total of 31 college players were named to the All-American First, Second and Third teams. Homa was one of 10 on the Third Team and the only Cal player to make any of the teams.

The junior finished off his season with a personal-best performance at the NCAA finals, shooting a three-day score of 1-over to finish tied for ninth individually among 156 players.

From there, he and the Golden Bears went on to advance to the NCAA semifinals, where the team lost to Alabama in match play.

Homa was also an All-Pac-12 second-team selection and he finished the season with a scoring average of 72.2 strokes. He was a scoring member of six tournament victories for Cal this season, including the team’s first Pac-12 championship.

Homa is 33rd in this week’s World Amateur Golf Rankings.
