Two people were taken to a hospital after a silver Ford Focus and a green Honda Accord collided just before 9:40 a.m. Tuesday on Placerita Canyon Road near Delden Road, about half a mile east of Highway 14.
"It was a head-on collision but not a direct one," a Sheriff's Department official said at the scene of the crash. "Airbags in both vehicles deployed."
Both vehicles sustained major damage to front and drivers' sides, and the Ford was missing its left-front tire when it was loaded onto a flatbed truck about 10:30 p.m.
The impact of the crash scattered pieces of both vehicles across the two-lane road.
The crash temporarily closed part of the eastbound lane on Placerita Canyon Road, but both lanes were open by 10:40 a.m.
Initial crash reports said one person was trapped in one of the vehicles, a Fire Department official said.
