Fire inside an apartment at a seniors complex in Castaic injured four women, three with light smoke inhalation and one with a burn to her left forearm, a fire official said today.

The injuries were described as minor, and all four women refused to be transported to a hospital, said a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The Sunday night fire was contained to one apartment and caused an estimated $100,000 structural damage. It destroyed contents valued at about $5,000, he said.

At 7:40 p.m. Sunday, fire officials received a report of fire inside a single-family unit on the third floor of the Castaic Lake Senior Village on Castaic Road north of Lake Hughes Road.

The cause of the fire was initially listed as accidental, the spokesman said.

"I was really worried when I heard the fire alarm," said second-floor resident Connie Surber. "I'm on oxygen 24/7 and I have 30 small oxygen tanks in my apartment.

"A lot of other residents are on oxygen, too," she said.

Unconfirmed reports from residents suggest the fire started in a third-floor laundry adjacent to the damaged apartment.

The injured women were reportedly put up in a nearby motel in Castaic.
