The Federal Emergency Management Agency is lending a helping hand during the holiday season to victims of the recent California wildfires.

A FEMA rebuilding specialist will hand out flyers with tips and techniques from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Thursday through Sunday at the Lowe's store at 19001 Golden Valley Road in Canyon Country.

"Following a few simple steps, homeowners can dramatically increase the chances of their dwellings surviving a wildfire," said Mark Neveau, federal coordinating officer.

Homeowners can carry the message of safe building from the event out into the community.

"Besides talking with subject-matter experts at the mitigation displays, there are valuable handouts, including a ‘Firewise Construction Checklist' and a ‘Homeowner's Checklist' published by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection to make your home fire-safe," said Tom Maruyama, deputy state coordinating officer.
