Little Shepherd's Nursery School, the oldest preschool in the Santa Clarita Valley, is celebrating 43 years of being at First Presbyterian Church of Newhall.

Ester Kloth, who has been the director for 34 years, has a staff of five who have from 5 to 14 years experience. The school includes three classrooms, along with outdoor play space for kids.

Along with academic lessons, children learn how to share and are taught to develop thinking skills in solving problems and expressing feeling in an appropriate manner, she said. Class size vary from 8 to 12 where the children play with puzzles, costumes, building blocks and dialogue using books.

Little Shepherd's is nondenominational, but the school prays before snacks and celebrates Christmas and Hanukkah.

The preschool is located at 24317 Newhall Ave. in Newhall.
