The Santa Clarita Elks Lodge will host its annual Elks Flag Day Ceremony from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. June 15 at the lodge on the 17700 block of Sierra Highway.
“We display all the original U.S. Flags and we pay our respects to those who lost their lives defending this country,” said past Elks Lodge president Tom Schmidt.
The free event will feature a Boy Scouts Flag Retirement Ceremony.
“For the younger guys, it’s a fun and solemn event,” Schmidt said. “We show them how to fold the flag and how to properly retire the flag.”
According to the U.S. Code, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
Free hamburgers and hot dogs will be served to anyone in military uniform.
Dinner will also be available for purchase starting at 6:30 p.m.
For information, call 661-251-1500 or 661-251-1520. On the evening of the event call (661) 251-1520.
