Changes information about access for premier parking pass holders

The city of Santa Clarita will be offering 100 prime parking spots at Central Park during the upcoming Concerts in the Park series - but they will cost residents who want to take advantage of them.

The city will be offering 100 premier parking passes for sale at $150 each that will guarantee residents a parking spot at Central Park for all eight concerts this summer, according to city officials. The money from the parking passes will be used to pay for increased security at the events - which have attracted up to 8,000 people, said Community Services Superintendent Ingrid Hardy.

"(The passes) help pay for security and also enhance the experience for concert-goers who might want a way to park closer," Hardy said.

The premier parking passes will allow concert-goers to park closer to the concert’s backstage, Hardy said. The passes must be purchased and picked up by July 6. Residents can go to the city’s website to purchase the parking passes — http://arts.santa-clarita.com/Index.aspx?page=42.

Residents will still be able to use 750 free spaces at Central Park, although they're advised to get to the event early if they want a spot.

In addition to the new parking passes, the city is also starting new rules and guidelines this season in an effort to allow equal access to the concerts, Hardy said.

"We basically had patrons arriving at the park as early as 7 a.m. or 8 a.m. in the morning and roping off space," Hardy said.
The new rules won't allow concert-goers to use stakes, ropes or caution tape, according to city officials. Residents also won't be able to leave their canopies, chairs and blankets unattended and staff members will remove unoccupied canopies and chairs prior to the concert.

The free concerts start July 7 and run through August 25 at Central Park - 27150 Bouquet Canyon Rd. Concerts begin at 7 p.m.
