LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) - California State University has launched the search for a replacement for retiring Chancellor Charles B. Reed with the appointment of a special committee.

The 23-campus university system said Tuesday that the committee comprises seven members of the board of trustees, including those representing faculty and students.

The committee is set to hold a public meeting June 28 to receive input from the community as it advertises for the position in relevant publications.

Committee Chairman Bill Hauck says the panel wants to gather views on the qualities that the university seeks in a new system leader.

Reed has led CSU for 14 years. He plans to stay on until his replacement is named, which is expected to occur in the fall.
