In a vote held at Pico Canyon Elementary School in Stevenson Ranch students decided to donate the proceeds from the school's annual PTA variety show to The Gentle Barn, said John Yang, Pico Canyon PTA Variety Show chairman.

The show raised $1,069.78 for The Gentle Barn, an animal rescue organization located in Canyon Country. The variety show's emcees nominated four Santa Clarita Valley nonprofits for the honor.

A schoolwide vote was held, and The Gentle Barn was the overwhelming vote getter, Yang said.

"We are so blessed to live in an amazing community and we just want to give something back to the community that we love so much," said Yang, "The kids have worked so hard in the last few months to get ready for the show. We want to raise as much money as possible for The Gentle Barn."

The Gentle Barn President Jay Weiner accepted a check from the students at Pico Canyon Elementary School.
