NEWBERRY SPRINGS, Calif. (AP) - The body of a missing Southern California fire captain has been found in the Mojave Desert.

Apple Valley Fire Protection District Capt. Roy Cullumber was last seen alive on Memorial Day. His body was found Saturday afternoon near Interstate 40 in the Newberry Springs area.

The 51-year-old Cullumber was an outdoorsman and searchers had been looking for him at his favorite camping and off-road sites.

The Victorville Daily Press says the San Bernardino County coroner will determine the cause of death and authorities don't suspect foul play.
