Deputies arrested one driver for being under the influence of alcohol or drugs at a sheriff’s DUI checkpoint in Valencia Friday night, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release issued Saturday.

In all, 1,204 vehicles were screened and four drivers given field sobriety tests at the checkpoint between 6 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. Saturday on Magic Mountain Parkway near Avignon Drive.

Also, three drivers were cited at the checkpoint for driving without licenses or driving with suspended or revoked licenses, Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Rich Cohen said. Nine other drivers were cited for various vehicle code violations.

The previous DUI checkpoint occurred 6 p.m. May 25 to 2 a.m. May 26 in Canyon Country. Deputies screened 900 vehicles at that checkpoint and arrested one driver, Cohen said.

Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
